Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] velvetandlace, even though it was "not required" to do it. ;)

It's the random 20-facts-about-me-you-probably-don't-know meme.

1. I flirted with alcoholism in my late teens/early twenties, and it flirted back with me. At my worst, I drank an entire case of beer by myself, in one night. Folks, that was a full case of beer. 24 to be exact. I was still partially functional, and actually wanted more alcohol. Nowadays, I can't drink beer, and my sense of 'limits' has established itself.

2. I can play the violin, or used to be able to. I learned it at age 11, but by age 18, the absolutely ugly politics to 'be' first chair destroyed my intentions of continuing with music at uni.

3. My first pair of Doc Martens were purple 8 holes.

4. I am completely honest with people. I will not say something they expect to hear, especially in situations where a) they have asked for my opinion/advice and b) are doing something that makes me worry about their welfare. Don't ask me for advice, and be all shocked and shaken unless you are prepared to hear the truth. If you are a good enough friend to trust me for advice anyway, there should be no worry of offense.

5. I don't mind causing a scene, especially if I am effing pissed off.

6. I prefer wearing flip flops to 'dressy' sandals, and bare feet as opposed to socks. (Ask me that again in October. Brr.)

7. Unbiased sex education starting in elementary school (age 6 or so) should be mandatory around the world, no excuses, no exceptions. Yes, parents should teach their children this. Unfortunately, that is not reality.

8. I abhor injustice.

9. I am insane for chocolate.

10. I have no intention of giving up.

11. I never know what to say/do/feel when someone asks me if I could "spare some change" on the street. Yet, I always say no.

12. Don't ask me to "throw the remote" if I'm sitting across the room from you. Slight bruising will result.

13. I know the partial reason I got so far into debt ... I have somehow connected shopping with emotional upset.

14. As a kid, I was paralyzed by shyness. I didn't go on an exchange to Quebec because I was too afraid.

15. My mom used to fly into irrational rages at me unexpectedly. Once, she told me that I was 'going to give her a heart attack.'

16. There was a major event in my family pretty much every year from the age of 14 until I left home for uni. It got to the point where I was always expecting the other shoe to drop.
(age 14, my sister leaves her abusive BF, with her 2 kids to come live with us, age 15, mom breaks her leg, spends a year recovering, age 16, mom diagnosed with ultra aggressive skin cancer that was invading her body, age 17, dad has a heart attack)

17. I don't trust anyone in my family.

18. My cat, aka "Miss Mew", saved my life, metaphorically speaking.

19. I went through an intense "phase" which lasted 4 years, and coincided brilliantly with going to uni, of crushing loneliness.

20. I still feel like I have to buy new school supplies in August.
