Mercury Retrograde. I haz it.
Aug. 23rd, 2010 05:54 pmBack to work today after a lovely & relaxing week off.
Got my tea & water & logged onto my computer. It.took.........................forever to boot up. I felt like it was 1998 or something. Had a weird error message in another program. So I restarted, and same slowness, etc. Shut down, waited an insane amount of time for the computer to boot up. Realized I was fighting a losing battle around 9:30 am. Called the IT people. They couldn't fix it remotely because I had no internet connection. They even made me open it in safe mode & try for a connection to their helpdesk. NO. IT'S BROKE. DOESN'T WORK. So, IT sends a nerd over. He spends roughly 1.5 hours typing & clicking things in dialog boxes & then says: I THINK MAYBE IT'S A HARDWARE FAILURE. I THINK IT'S THE NETWORK CARD.
I've kind of given up on the idea of work at this point. It's almost 11 am, and still, typing/clicking/franticness from the IT nerd. Then, suddenly, revelation! It was a funky cord!! Oh yeah. But, alas, IT nerd didn't bring one with him, and there are no spares in the office, and so has to go back to his office to get more & so on. Meanwhile, I was trying to get set up on the other computer at my desk. I almost tweaked when the real estate program wasn't anywhere on that computer suddenly. I called one of the other staff members to ask her if she knew where it would be hiding/if she had an install disk. I got a bit of a snarky answer back to the effect of; 'Oh, you need to run the faxes through that other program?" Uh, that would be affirmative.Otherwise, how will I know who to send the faxes to? It's not like other law firms or banks put the clerk's name on the faxes. Or, if there is a clerk's name if it even is correct. So, that was another round of calling someone else, finding out how to download *that* effing program. Once it was downloaded, I tried logging in, & ERROR MESSAGE. I was ready to hulksmash.
TL;DR version> Work computer blew chunks, finally got logged on at 11:45 am, only 2.75 hours AFTER my start time after much GRR ARGH, and blood pressure hasn't quite recovered yet.
