Mail Day!

Got home, checked mailbox, retrieved mail. Started snickering to self at letter addressed to the mister from the Ministry of the Attorney General. I'm thinking jury duty. Since the mister is REALLY bad with dealing with mail (which did not help when dealing with bills) I open everything now, whether it is addressed to him or not. It turns out to be a form he is lawfully required to complete & return, & he may be called for jury duty in the future. I glanced through it, and saw the question,

'Have you been convicted of any criminal offence that can be prosecuted by way of an indictment for which you have not been granted a pardon?" See Section B, instruction 6 before responding to this question.

This actually cracked me up a little bit. Obviously a person should know the status of their criminal history, and the answer is either Yes or No. But curiosity got the better of me, so I did refer to Section B, instruction 6;

As you'll note, these items all seem to make sense.

But, then I arrived at the next column, and kind of boggled at the 5th one from the top;

So, I looked up the Criminal Code and found this:

Pretending to practise witchcraft, etc.

365. Every one who fraudulently

(a) pretends to exercise or to use any kind of witchcraft, sorcery, enchantment or conjuration,

(b) undertakes, for a consideration, to tell fortunes, or

(c) pretends from his skill in or knowledge of an occult or crafty science to discover where or in what manner anything that is supposed to have been stolen or lost may be found,

is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

R.S., c. C-34, s. 323.

I wonder what the Amazing Kreskin thinks of this offence. I used to watch his show when I was a kid. Hulu is a service available only to Americans, but the old shows are on the Youtubes too. I highly suggest watching a couple of episodes. He used to freak me out.
