here is a stack of [ almost ] all my paper journals.

the earliest one is from 1982. the first entry was on a saturday.
I was 10.
I still have the seashell that was purchased that day.
it is on my desk.

the striped journal on top is the most recent journal i'm using.
underneath that one is my moleskine sketchbook, which is also on the go.
to be honest, i have at least 3 to 4 notebooks / journals in use at any one time.

not counting this journal.

a lifetime of writing

these are my memories.

sad, beautiful, tragic, looking for trouble, honest, out of control,
messy, awkward, frightened, angry, horny,
dangerous, devious, delighted, decadent, tortured, ignored
alone,
lonely,  longing, stuck, betrayed, loved,
drunk, bored, questioning, fragile
dreamy

Wow. It makes me wish I had all of mine, still - I kind of miss them.

It wasn't my decision, unfortunately. I stored a lot of stuff at my parents house when I went away to uni, and they threw them out -- and my aunt, apparently, has thrown out the one I left in Newcastle. Because they don't think they're important.

They know enough not to read through any of my notebooks, but they throw them out, so, I don't know where the logic is! Sigh.

It's my firm belief that some people just don't understand the beauty of journalling. I'm not sure exactly what logic they were using ... maybe they figured the books were 'used up', hence, of no more value/usefulness. Such a strange mindset though.

That's a lot of documentation there. Did you take any breaks between 1982 and today?

Not many breaks, if any at all. It took me about a year or so to fill up one journal with my babble, and I just kept going to the next journal. That was the fun of it to realize that journal was coming to an end, and the anticipation of going and buying a new journal ... making sure it was the right one, and pretty. It amuses me that even online journals are customizable from top to bottom ... everyone wants to put their own mark on whatever they touch.

I have quite a few blank journals just lying around the house right now, just in case.
