Back to work today after four glorious days in which I slept a lot, ate shortbread cookies & chocolate, & slept a lot. I've been feeling exceptionally quiet, which is not unusual for me at this time of year. I get introspective around New Year's Eve & a bit melancoly. I used to think something was wrong with me, but no. I am just the opposite of the crazy New Year's Eve party. I like to cocoon & nest & be still at this time of year.
I totally should have booked Wednesday - Thursday - Friday off this week -- Mike has these days off, while I had Monday & Tuesday for Christmas & Boxing Day. Mike's office is jamming Christmas, Boxing Day & New Year's Day all together like that instead of giving the usual days off (the next business day after the holiday falls). Oh well. If Mike had been more organized & booked his holidays when he was supposed to, then, it wouldn't have been an issue.
Christmas itself was calm & low key as usual. We exchanged presents this year, after a few years of not doing so. We tried to keep to a budget, but apparently it was a generous underestimate. I received a few gift certificates - one for my favourite bead shop, & one for Chapters. Also, awesome Smartwool socks & a wee manicure set that I can put in my purse. As Mike puts it, I'm always looking for the nail clippers or nail file. To which I reply, 'Yes, dear. If you would put them back in the jar on the bathroom counter they are supposed to live in, it wouldn't be an issue.' We didn't do the fancible Christmas feast though. I wasn't feeling up to all that cooking, so we had Festive Spaghetti & Meatballs. Quite yummy regardless.
I hope everyone else's festivities were excellent, full of delicious noms, low-drama, & full of love. Or at least lots of alcohol.
